Boy Scout Merit Badge Day

Calling all Boy Scouts! Merit Badge Day at Indian Creek Nature Center gives you an opportunity to work with a team of experts in Citizenship in the Community, Sustainability, Nature, Gardening, Plant Science, Bird Study and Backpacking. Sign up for a morning session (9am-Noon), afternoon session (1-4pm), or stay for the full day. A one-hour lunch break will be provided from  Noon – 1pm. All sessions are located at Amazing Space 5300 Otis Rd SE. Scouts are responsible for bringing their own lunchDress for the weather, as activities will be outdoors! Pre-registration required for all participants.

**Prior to arriving for merit badge day, scouts are expected to have read through their corresponding merit badge book and to have thought about the requirements.

Morning Sessions 9am-Noon

Citizenship in the Community – Scouts will attempt requirements 1 and 2, and 4 thru 6 during the workshop. Scouts are responsible for requirements 3, 7 and 8 on their own.

Sustainability -  Scouts will attempt part of requirement 1 at the workshop but will be responsible for the family meeting portion of number 1 on their own. Scouts will attempt for requirement 2: Water - C, Food - B, Energy - A, Stuff - C at the workshop. Scouts will attempt requirement 3, and 4.a. during the workshop. Scouts will start 4.c. but will need to complete on their own. Scouts will be responsible for requirement 2: Water - A, Food -  A, Community – both parts, Energy - B or C and Stuff - A, as well as requirements 5 and 6 on their own.

Nature – Scouts will attempt requirements 1-3, 4a1, 4b, 4c and 4e at the workshop. Scouts are responsible for one other requirement from 4 (d, f, g or h) and 4a2 on their own

Gardening - Scouts will attempt requirements 1, 3, 6 and 7 during the workshop. Scouts will plant seeds to start requirements 2 and 4 but will need to finish germinating and growing on their own. An opportunity to work towards 5 and 8 will be offered at Lowe Park Greenhouse on a later date.

Afternoon Sessions 1-4pm

Backpacking – Scouts will attempt requirements 1-5, 7 and 8 at the workshop. Scouts are invited to bring personal gear with if they have some. Scouts will be responsible for requirements 6 and 9 thru 11 on their own.

Plant Science Scouts will attempt parts A through C for the Field Botany option for requirement 8 during the workshop. Scouts will start parts D and F during the workshop, but may need to complete on their own. Scouts will be responsible for requirements 1 through 7 and part E of the Field Botany options for number 8 on their own.

Bird Study – Scouts will attempt requirements 1 through 4, and 6 during the workshop. Scouts will start requirement 5 during the workshop but may need to finish it on their own. Scouts are responsible for requirements 7 and 8 on their own.
